Publication Ethics
Education Development (Eddev) is committed to upholding the highest standards of publication ethics and integrity. Authors, reviewers, and editors involved in the publication process are expected to adhere to the following ethical guidelines:
Duties of Authors
-
Originality and Plagiarism: Authors must ensure that their work is entirely original and properly cited or quoted the work and/or words of others. Plagiarism in any form is unethical and unacceptable.
-
Authorship: All individuals who have made significant contributions to the research or manuscript must be listed as authors. Proper acknowledgment of sources of funding and contributions of others must be included.
-
Data Access and Retention: Authors may be asked to provide raw data for editorial review and must be prepared to provide public access to such data if feasible.
-
Multiple or Concurrent Publications: Authors should not submit manuscripts describing essentially the same research to more than one journal simultaneously. Concurrent submission of the same manuscript to multiple journals constitutes unethical publishing behavior.
-
Acknowledgment of Sources: Proper acknowledgment of the work of others must always be given. Authors should cite publications that have been influential in determining the nature of the reported work.
-
Conflict of Interest: Authors must disclose any financial or personal relationships that could influence the research or its interpretation.
-
Errors in Published Works: If authors discover significant errors or inaccuracies in their published work, they are obligated to promptly notify the journal’s editor or publisher and cooperate with them to correct the manuscript or retract the paper if necessary.
Duties of Reviewers
-
Confidentiality: Reviewers must keep all manuscripts confidential and must not discuss the contents of the manuscript with anyone outside of the peer review process.
-
Objectivity: Reviewers should conduct their reviews objectively, providing constructive feedback and supporting their comments with appropriate arguments.
-
Acknowledgment of Sources: Reviewers should identify relevant published work that has not been cited by the authors. Any statement that is an observation, derivation, or argument that has been reported in previous publications should be accompanied by a relevant citation.
-
Conflict of Interest: Reviewers should not review manuscripts in which they have conflicts of interest resulting from competitive, collaborative, or other relationships or connections with any of the authors, companies, or institutions associated with the manuscript.
Duties of Editors
-
Publication Decisions: The Editor-in-Chief or Associate Editor is responsible for deciding which manuscripts submitted to the journal will be published, based on the validation of the work in question, its importance to researchers and readers, the reviewers’ comments, and legal requirements.
-
Fair Review: Editors must ensure that each manuscript received by the journal is reviewed for its intellectual content without regard to the authors' race, gender, sexual orientation, religious belief, ethnic origin, citizenship, or political philosophy.
-
Confidentiality: Editors and editorial staff must ensure the confidentiality of the submitted manuscripts and the integrity of the peer review process.
-
Disclosure and Conflicts of Interest: Editors and editorial board members should recuse themselves from considering manuscripts in which they have conflicts of interest resulting from competitive, collaborative, or other relationships or connections with any of the authors, companies, or institutions associated with the manuscripts.
-
Handling of Unethical Behavior: Editors and editorial board members should take responsive measures when ethical concerns are raised with regard to a submitted manuscript or published paper. This includes contacting the authors and requesting clarification or issuing corrections, retractions, and apologies as necessary.
Education Development (Eddev) adheres to the guidelines and standards set forth by the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE) to ensure ethical publishing practices are maintained.
